After the economic downturn, she was encouraged to go out on her own. She designed her first collection in 2001—a five-piece capsule that included a version of the “I Love New York” t-shirt. The tee appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and she spent the next six months sewing tees from her living room floor.
In 2005, she designed her first handbag. She gave it the all-too-real name, “The Morning After Bag” (the “M.A.B.”), wore it around the city and sold them herself at a uniquely accessible price point. It became the cool girl’s must-have.
Rebecca’s drive, self-starter behavior and consumer-first instinct continue to fuel and galvanize the brand and its loyal community.
